I have a particular interest in mtDNA haplogroup V, because my sequence is in V2, at least as far as the phylogenetic tree is known today. Haplogroup V now has three main branches, and V2 has two branches. All of my mutations are accounted for by those associated with V2 except for one mutation. It remains to be seen if my remaining mutation will be "private" or if it will be of phylogenetic significance.
The figure in this post is part of figure 1 of a new paper in PLoSOne, which is freely available.
Interestingly, the authors of this paper did find 27 V sequences among their samples on the Iberian Peninsula and one V1 sequence, but not V2 sequences according to Table S2.
